Hillcrest Golf Club has a long-standing, well-known tradition throughout the Twin City area for their outstanding Caddie Program. By becoming a Hillcrest Caddie, youth have an opportunity to work towards the largest privately funded sport college scholarship program in the nation, the Evans Scholarship. The Western Golf Association, supported by 23 state and regional golf associations (including Minnesota), administers this program through the Evans Scholars Foundation.
Almost all the 200 new Scholars chosen annually attend college on tuition and housing grants from one of the 14 major universities where the Foundation maintains a chapter house. The University of Minnesota chapter was founded in 1958. In order to qualify, caddies must be nominated by their club and meet the following four requirements:
- Rank in the top 25 percent of their high school class
- Have a superior caddie record for two or more years
- Show financial need
- Have outstanding personal character
Every year, Hillcrest has had recipients of the Evans Scholarship. In 2003, two of the Minnesota winners caddied at Hillcrest.
In addition to the Evans Scholars Foundation, Hillcrest has created its own personalized Caddie Foundation. At any time, caddies can submit scholarship requests for educational related expenses.
Children 12 and over may apply for a caddie position at Hillcrest. Applications will be available in our office after April 1 of the upcoming golf season. Caddies will be used on a per need basis.
Hillcrest members and guests who walk are recommended to take a caddy. The member needs to specify on foretees that they will be taking caddies. The following are caddy rates and suggested compensation for various levels of service:
|Honor Caddy ($18 rate)
|"A" Caddy ($15 rate)
